2537. William Edward "Billy" Hollingsworth
William was a farmer at Pollaphuca. The farm lies near "The Vail of Avoca" and not far from "The Meetings of the Waters", two of the most beautifully scenic places in all Ireland. To quote his sister Dorothy, "Billy died from heart trouble."
Not much known about Sarah at this time, based on a October 2010 barn fire at the Hollingsworth barn and the fact there was a neighbor Aby Waldron that helped John Hollingsworth try to save some of his cattle, it is obvious that Sarah's parents were neighbors to the Hollingsworths.
HOLLINGSWORTH (nee Waldron) ("Oakview", Coolinearl, Redcross, Co. Wicklow) Dec. 23, 2009, after a brief illness, Sarah (Pearl), wife of the late Billy and much loved mother of Daphne, Deirdre, Shirley, John, Mervyn and the late Billy; deeply regretted by her loving sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, Amanda and her other grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Reposing at her residence. Removal on Saturday at 1.15 o'c. to Holy Trinity Church, Castlemacadam arriving for Service at 2 o'c. Burial immediately afterwards in adjoining churchyard. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Wicklow Palliative Care. Baskets at the Church.

2556. Robert Hollingsworth
My father, Robert (Bob) was born in
L'pool. He fought in the second world war as a rear
gunner in a Wellington in the RAF & completed a full
tour of duty. The Hollingsworth family, or at least the children,
seemed to spend holidays in Wicklow (I don't know
why). There he met my mother Anna May (Anne/Nan). They
got married after the war (also in Wicklow Catholic
Church) and for a while lived in the midlands where he
worked for Bord Na Mona. Note: the centre of Ireland
is largely a plain filled with peat bogs. The peat was
'harvested' for fuel by a state company called Bord Na
Mona. Later they moved to Dublin and lived in
Donnybroook for most of that time until their death.
The house was only rented - unusual for this day and
age - and when my mother died, the house went too. I
lived in London for five or so years. Moved back when
my father became ill. Met Sheila & fell in love.

2588. Margaret Mary (Rita) Hollingsworth
Dear Tom (11 May 2009)Sadly, Mum (Rita Guest nee Hollingsworth), passed away suddenly but peacefully on Easter Monday, 13 April 2009. The funeral was on 30 April and although at first it was a relief that she was no longer going through the confusions and indignities that go with Dementia and being immobile, I am now trying to come to terms with her death - I miss her enormously-she was my best friend as well as my Mum. 15 'Hollingsworth' cousins came from different parts of England and Ireland-some had never met so there was lots of catching up and getting to know each other. They are interested in the family history so will be passing on info.Tom - I started writing this to you on Tuesday 5 May only to get a call from my cousin to say that his Mum, Iris had died. Something in me knew that when Mum passed, her sister Iris would pass soon too. Her funeral is on Thurs 14 May - exactly 2 weeks after Mum's. Will catch up with you again.Best wishesSue

Hi Tom Sorry about delay in getting back to you-busy week. Some info for you that I know is correct Thomas Hollingsworth married Alice Jane Noblett 3 Nov 1920 at the Church of Kilpipe Co Wicklow Don't know when he married Doris Smyth Tom and Alice had SEVEN children 1 Maria b 12 September 1920 Ballythomas Co Wexford 2 Margaret Mary b 28 October 1921 Killadoon Celbridge Co Kildare 3 Edward Albert b 16 June 1923 Killadoon 4 Iris Francis b 10 November 1924 Killadoon 5 Thomas 6 Gladys Emily 7 John George. Alice Jane was born 17 June 1901 Ballythomas. Father Thomas Edward Noblett, mother Mary Anne Noblett (nee Pierce). Thomas Hollingsworth died 21 June 1969 Celbridge. Buried Donacomper Cemetery. Doris died 23 October 1975. I think both Alice and Maria were born at the Noblett family home- a shop/public house - The Gap, on the Gorey Tinahely Road, not far from Holyfort. Mum remembers spending most of her summer holidays there as a child. It's still a pub called "The Gap". Unfortunately it was closed until the evening when my cousins and I were last in Ireland. We were only over for the weekend and didn't have time to go back. We intend to go back to search out more family details and with the info we have from your website it has made the start so much easier. We previously had very little to go on. Will try to email you some photos-though my computer skills are not very good Best wishes Sue
The Guests were also from Ireland-Roscommon. But I know nothing else. My Dad, Leonard also lived in Celbridge but they moved to Dublin. His father, Henry, was born in Stratford on Avon England in 1881. Henry's father, also Leonard, left Roscommon for Stratford where he met and married Henry's mother Mary Derry. I believe the family returned to Ireland when Mary died. I've managed to trace more of the Derry side by visiting the Stratford on Avon Records Office in the Shakespeare Centre (such a beautiful and historical town to research my family tree) and the London RO. But I know nothing else re the Guests. Thats another side I need to researchRegardsSue
Hi TomTom and Doris had no childrenMy Uncle Tom may well have been "George" Thomas I only found out that my Uncle George was called "John" George at his funeral. My Mum was always called Rita and her brother Tom never knew that she was really Margaret Mary. Confusing isn't it?I will contact my cousins to check details and to check that they are happy for me to share their information with you."The Gap" is what Mum calls the Noblett family home. I think the "address" is Gorey Co Wexford and I believe the stove Amy refers to is from that property. There is a Wicklow Gap but I don't think the two are the same. More confusion?? Mangans Farm, Holyfort is not very far from it, I think it was on the same road. I think Maria, Tom, Gladys and (John)George were all born there and Alice's mother Mary was present at some if not all of the births but I don't have any records. Unfortunately it seems to be doubly hard to verify dates etc for Ireland from abroad. The Customs House in Dublin was burnt down in 1922 and I understand a lot of census records and Church of Ireland records were destroyed.I do hope that you and your wife have a wonderful time in Ireland come September and that the weather keeps dry!!!Best wishesSue
Hi TomTook another look at your amazing website. How did you find all your information?Correction - Doris (Smyth) buried Donacomper with George "Thomas"Kiladoon was one of the large estates in Celbridge, owned by the Clements family. My grandparents lived in the Lodge at the main entrance to the estate -sadly now demolished. George "Thomas" worked for the estate. Think its been bought by a big company now. Unfortunately access to the estate was not possible when we were over a couple of years ago. Sorry - photo montage was not good. It was made up from different photos taken at different times/different sizes etc because I wanted them all looking in the same direction as far as possible and about the same age. Will look out some better ones. Best wishesSueDear Tom, I do hope all is well with you as I haven't heard following my last email to you with better photos and some updates on your notes on the Hollingsworths Register. I have recently returned from my week in Ireland. Weather was atrocious on the West coast-Galway, but luckily when I got to my Aunt's in Dublin (father's side) we had glorious weather for the one day that we went to Celbridge to try and find Killadoon (where my mother Rita Hollingsworth was born to Tom (Mangans Farm,Hollyfort, Co. Wexford)and Alice Hollingsworth). If you remember, I didn't think the house was there anymore as the last time I was there with my cousins nobody we asked in Celbridge could tell us about it. But it is still there, still lived in and I was shown around etc which was so exciting. Would love to hear from you again. With Best wishes, Sue Allen (nee Guest)
Dear Tom, great to hear from you even though I now realise how busy you must be with elections etc (saw your website). Wish you the best. Did you get my email of 6 June with the jpeg photos of Mum's family? The previous photos I sent were dreadful and hope you can find time to replace them with the better one's. I can email them again if you didn't get them. Killadoon is in Celbridge Co Kildare- just outside Dublin. Mum and some of her sisters and brothers were born there and I have a photo of what was a back to back house(housing two families) in the grounds (now a single dwelling). it's the only one so must be the right house although Mum sadly was unable to confirm this as her memory is very poor. They later moved to one of the lodges at the entrance to the estate. Unfortunately this has been demolished but the second lodge at another entrance is still there and is possibly built in the same style. I went to Mangan's Farm and saw Amy about 3 years ago when I was over with my cousins. Four of us along with several children descended upon her and must have frightened the life out of her until she recognised my cousin Nick. She had many tales to tell and was able to tell us where 'The Gap' was( public house/shop once owned by the Nobletts) which sadly was closed 'til the evening when we found it. Also the church at Kilpipe where my grandparents Tom Hollingsworth and Alice Noblett were married.I wish I could get to Ireland more often too (and I'm only 30minutes away by plane!!!). Sadly Mum's illness means I have to book respite care for her in a care home so spontanaity is not possible at the moment. Will close for now and will sort out some photos and more details to send you.Best wishesSue
Dear TomI wanted to wish you all the very best. I've been very lax in replying to you. Unfortunately Mum's dementia and mobility worsened and in August I had to face the truth that she needed permanent care. She has been in a residential care home since then. I'm still finding it very hard to come to terms with. Also I purchased a laptop with Microsoft Vista. What a nightmare. I bought a wireless router for it and have since struggled to get connections for my internet, scanner/printer etc. I also find it really difficult to use as it is so different to my desktop computer which is Windows 98SE, and my works one -Windows XP.We've had a few family get togethers recently - cousins have come over from Ireland for these. A number of cousins have accessed the Hollingsworth site and I will give them your email address for them to contact you with their family info. For now let me wish you a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New YearBest Wishes,Sue
Had an opportunity to meet Amy during my visit to County Wexford and Hollyfort, Mangan House, in September 2005. Amy invited my wife Toni and I into her house and we talked for quite awhile about the family and the house. Amy was very proud of the fact she was still cooking every day with the same stove she brought with her from “The Gap” when she married and moved into Mangan House.
Mangan House was built by and lived in by the Hollingsworth family since 1730. (TJH)

Diane had no ill effects from her "pratfall at the Sydney Opera House" in October 2003 and her fractured right foot recovered nicely. Also, her left knee benefited from the wonders of modern keyhole surgery last March 2004 and healed with no ill effects. She has been back on the tennis court attacking the ball with vigor. Congratulation Diane on such a nice recovery. (Tom ed.)
