2523. Joseph Carr "Dock" Hollingsworth
On March 10, 1998, I lost my best friend, my father, Joseph Carr Hollingsworth, better known to thousands of friends as "Dock". Daddy fought a long and arduous battle with Cancer for the three years preced- ing his death. He was diagnosed with cancer on February 14, 1995. His entire battle with cancer was three years long. Even though the worst of the disease did not occur until later, he still was undergoing a mental battle in those early months amid many doctors visits and numerous medical tests to determine the precise treatment that was going to "cure" him once and for all. He had a stronger will to live than anyone I have ever known. Dad was an extremely strong-willed and determined individual. When he made up his mind that he wanted to change some aspect of his life, he just did. Not without great anguish and sacrifice, I'm sure. He overcame obstacles that most people spend a lifetime attempting to overcome. Dock was born in Moselle, Jones County, Mississippi, March 25, 1923. His parents, Joshua Tolbert Hollingsworth and Daisy Candace Monk Hollingsworth, predeceased him. Dock was a Carpenter/Millwright by trade and was respected for his expertise in this field. Dock was an Honorably Discharged veteran of WWII, having served as an American soldier with the 315 Infantry Division, 79th Infantry, Medical Detachment, in the European Theater, involving action in Normandy, Northern France, Alsace Lorraine, Rhineland, Germany, Central Europe. He was very patriotic to his country all of his life, and loved to fly his flag. Daddy lived life to the fullest, teaching his children well by both example and instruction, to always do what's right by our fellow man, and to keep faith in our Lord. Respect for our Mother and each other was very important to him as well. Dock is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie Caroldine Blackwell, and seven children, Joseph Kenneth of Redlands, CA; Marion Keith of Plano, TX; Ina Carole Goff of Gautier, MS; Kimble Tolbert of Pascagoula, MS; Carla Jean Hiestand of Moss Point, MS; Bonnie Kay Sims of Vancleave, MS; and Kelley Lyn of Pascagoula, MS, all of whom miss him dearly. He is buried in Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula, Jackson County, Mississippi.
2895. Joseph Kenneth "Ken" Hollingsworth
I currently live in Redlands, CA. I moved out here from Mississippi in '68 when I was in the USAF. I married a local girl, moved back to MS in '72 when I got out of the AF, then back out here in '75. Hoping to get back home at some point for retirement. Children (4 boys) are all grown and gone now. Youngest is in TX in the USAF, and will probably retire from the AF in a few years.
KenI am the son of Joseph Carr and Bonnie Caroldine (Blackwell) Hollingsworth. My father and I descend from Isaac and Jacob, the brothers who migrated into Mississippi in the early 1800's, and produced a multitude of descendants. If you are related in some way to a Hollingsworth, don't be surprised to find a connection. Jacob's and Isaac's descendants spread out to most of the southern states, and some even went north.
Hey Tom,
That HR deal sounds like something we could work on. Before you do much typing, I have quite a few typed already that aren't uploaded. Being the world's worst procrastinator not withstanding, I have been off and on that project for so long that I have it scattered on several hard drives, some that may never run again. At the onset of that project, I recruited several people to transcribe them, and those generous people just literally covered me up with it.
I checked out your site, and commend you for such a grand undertaking. Congrats on such a fine job, Tom. I also found that you do, indeed, have my line included, down to a point. I guess the easy way to navigate down to it, is
Valentine, Samuel, Samuel II, Samuel III. Sam III's children include Jacob, & Isaac, the two brothers who migrated into MS. I will warn you that the lineage of Sam III and Jacob & Isaac is NOT proven that I know of. I refer you to this link on my site, where Harold Graham, long time Hollingsworth researcher, gives some evidence and reasons...

Sam III > Jacob > Isaac Jr. > James Henry \
Married and had Joshua Tolbert >
Joseph Carr > Me
Sam III > Isaac > Robin > Mary Francis /
James Henry and Mary Francis were 3rd cousins, and here's their photo..

2902. James Francis Hollingsworth U.S. Army Lt. Gen
James served with the 2nd Armored Division, was with the invasion of North Africa and the occupation of Berlin, he was wounded in action five times during this period. He was honored by General Patton, he later served in Vietnam and was promoted to Lt General, and served in Korea.
2535. Dorothy Hollingsworth
In the letter Dorothy wrote to Harry (HR) in March 1986 she told a lot of the information about the family that I was able to update. She also said her two sons Michael and John are both very interested in the family history, also that Michael's Garda duty was in the area of Gorey and Ballycanew.
Dorothy also said her son John called her after "her father got married in 1985" he would have been 100, this has to be a mistake, her father died in 1947. She must have meant "his father". Either she made a mistake or Harry made a typo.
