No direct connection has been made between Levi Hollingsworth and anyone who may have fathered him. There are numerous Hollingsworth's in the Maryland and DE areas and quite a few in South Carolina, but no outstanding proof, to date. We know that Levi was born in North Carolina and eventually moved to Hardin Co., Tennessee. He married Mary Polly Boshers on Mar. 3, 1827 in Lincoln Co. They had 9 children, Joseph, Mary, James B., Jason W., Elizabeth J., Margaret, Jehu, Jordan and Jesse over the period from 1831-1848.

He was born January 1845 in Lawrence Co, TN, and died May 05, 1909 in Fannin Co, TX. In 1900 one of their seven children was still living. Margarett and Andy are buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Ector, Fannin Co, TX

was born July 1850 in Hardin Co, TN, and died Aft. 1930 in OK. He married MARY FRANCES MAY December 31, 1876 in Hardin Co, TN, daughter of THOMAS MAY and MARTHA ?. She was born May 1857 in TN, and died Bet. 1920 - 1930 in OK.


1346. Sarah Frances Hollingsworth

was born October 4, 1853 in Hardin Co, TN, and died July 23, 1941 in Hardin Co, TN. She married JAMES H. SWINEA, son of WILLIAM SWINEA and NANCY ?. He was born 1840 in Hardin Co, TN, and died December 25, 1920 in TN. In 1920 one of her two children was still living. Sarah and James are buried together in his grave at the Shiloh National Cemetery.

Eli married Elizabeth Ellis on 28 Feb 1827 in Flushing, Belmont County, OH. Elizabeth died 1837.

Eli Hollingsworth (1807-1882) b. Flushing, Ohio m. Elizabeth Ellis
(d. 1837) in 1827. Concord MM. Elizabeth is buried at Quaker Lynn Cemetery ,Lynn
Indiana, and has no birth date on the stone. According to Quaker records,
Eli and Elizabeth, with their three children, Jonathan, Mary Ann, and Isaac
moved from Flushing, Ohio to Wayne County, Indiana in 1836. Elizabeth's
brother Jonathan Ellis, had proceeded them by about a year. This was a 200
mile journey across Ohio on the Old National Trail. They settled in the
village of Whitewater, Indiana. The following spring Elizabeth gave birth
to her fourth child John and died 10 days later.

1348. Jonathan M.E. "Ellis" Hollingsworth

Jonathon lived in Huntington County, Indiana, He served in Company E of the Indiana of the 4th Indiana Infantry under the name of Ellis Hollingsworth. The 1880 census shows he had three children. His brother Levi provided a deposition in his application for a pension.

John E. Smith

John was a Cooper (barrel maker) in Centerville, Indiana. Served in the 22nd Infantry of Indiana during the Civil War. (Wayne County Death records.)
They had 3 daughters. Dora married a Mendenhall , another married a Bertseh, the other married a McConaha. All had families


Bebila (Delila ) Hinshaw

In the 1850 Federal Census of McLean County, Illinois, Delila was listed as still living at home with her parents at age 29. Delila Hinshaw died buried in a cemetery 1 1/2 miles northwest of Converse, Indiana.


Tabitha Thomas

About 1839, Elihu married Tabitha Thomas (1817-1850), buried at Arba
Indiana. They lived on a farm near Lynn, Indiana. They had four children,
Levi, Achsah, Celia, and Jane. About one year after the death of Tabitha,
Eli, with these four children and his oldest son, Jonathon, moved to
Converse,Indiana (1851


Reuben King Tanquary

Buried in Grace Lawn. Served in the Civil War as Pvt in "K " company, 34th Division, Indiana Volunteers. He enlisted in Anderson Indiana on 9/4/1861 and mustered out 9/21/1864. A pension was granted his widow 4/25/1908

1355. Celia Hollingsworth

Celia Hollingsworth married William David Detamore on September 27, 1866,
after he was mustered out of the US Army (June 21, 1865) following his
service in the Civil War. She was born April 5, 1846. William was born
August 13, 1846, in Butler County, IN. He died on June 14, 1910 at
Converse, IN and buried in the IOOF Cemetery at Converse. Celia died
January 13, 1893.
